Did you know, Bananas?

The word “banana” is borrowed by Spanish or Portuguese from a West African word, possibly Wolof “banana”.

It has been speculated that it derives from Arabic banan, which means ‘finger, toe’, an origin which would be echoed in the English term hand for a bunch of bananas.
